WEMF marked a significant milestone this week with a parliamentary presentation highlighting our humanitarian work and future vision for crisis response. The visit included special access to Prime Minister’s Questions and strategic meetings with key parliamentary figures, underlining the growing recognition of WEMF’s impact in humanitarian medicine.

Strategic Discussions for Future Impact

In meetings with the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces, Luke Pollard MP, WEMF outlined its approach to sudden-onset disaster response and plans for enhancing medical training in crisis zones. These discussions were particularly meaningful given Pollard’s connection to Devon – the same region where WEMF’s journey began. These discussions focused on strengthening our capability to provide crucial medical support where it’s needed most.

Long-standing Parliamentary Support

The visit highlighted the invaluable support WEMF has received from key parliamentary champions. Jo Platt, British Labour and Co-operative politician who has serves as Member of Parliament for Leigh and Atherton, has been instrumental in securing vital operational resources, including a community resource centre that has transformed our ability to prepare and distribute medical supplies.

Richard Foord MP, a British Liberal Democrat politician and former British Army officer who serves as Member of Parliament for Honiton and Sidmouth (previously Tiverton and Honiton), has been an unwavering supporter since our inception, helping navigate the complexities of humanitarian aid delivery.

Evolution from M4U to WEMF

As we continue our evolution from Medics4Ukraine to the World Extreme Medicine Fund, these high-level discussions are shaping our strategic direction in humanitarian medicine. The parliamentary recognition of our work, particularly in Ukraine, reinforces our commitment to creating sustainable impact through local medical community training.

Looking Forward

This parliamentary engagement represents more than recognition—it’s a stepping stone toward enhanced capabilities in crisis response and medical training. As we expand our global reach, we remain focused on our core mission: delivering immediate response, community empowerment, and sustainable impact where they’re needed most.
