WEMF Honoured with Humanitarian Medal for Innovative Community Training in Kherson

The team at WEMF has received two significant honours from the Kherson region – a humanitarian volunteer medal and a rare commemorative coin marking the city’s liberation. These recognitions celebrate our innovative approach to community medical training in conflict zones.

Expanding Our Impact

This acknowledgment follows our successful delivery of ‘Stop the Bleed + Street Trauma’ training across Kherson. Working at the governor’s request, we’ve pioneered a new approach to humanitarian medical support, extending our training beyond medical professionals to empower entire communities with life-saving skills.

A Meaningful Recognition

The commemorative coin holds special significance for our team. As a limited edition piece marking Kherson’s liberation, it represents the deep bond between WEMF and the communities we serve. Honorary Professor Mark Hannaford, our co-founder, received both honours on behalf of the team during our final training session in Kherson.

“These awards represent something much bigger than recognition,” says Mark. “They celebrate the extraordinary spirit of the people we train – every individual determined to protect their community.”

Creating Lasting Change

This acknowledgment validates our community-focused approach to crisis zone medical training. We’ve now trained over 1,000 responders, including 127 from our recent Kherson mission. Each person trained becomes a potential lifesaver in their community, creating a network of emergency responders where they’re needed most.

Building on Success

These honours arrive as we expand our reach beyond Ukraine. From our beginnings as Medics4Ukraine, we’ve grown into a global initiative while maintaining our core principles: immediate response, community empowerment, and sustainable impact.
