Mission: To deliver a bespoke online trauma and mental health training resource
February 2021, the military of Myanmar staged a coup, sparking political unrest and a widespread humanitarian crisis.
Thousands of civilians were impacted by escalating violence and the medical community were under intense pressure.
The Medics4Myanmar project aimed to bring trauma training and psychological support to local medical communities.
Outcome
Medics4Myanmar delivered over 10,000 downloaded sessions with our resources.
As a result of the coup and increasingly violent scenes in the country, a couple of World Extreme Medicine faculty members with links in Myanmar, set about to create a series of online resources specifically for local medics. This training focused on trauma medicine and psychological support for those affected.
The short 4-5 month project delivered sessions in both English and Burmese. They were then made freely available to trauma, primary care medics and allied healthcare professionals – anyone dealing with casualties – via the internet.
This project showed support for local medics ensuring that they didn’t feel forgotten by the wider community during their plight – and shared vital expertise and training when it was most needed.
